ELDER ABUSE: UNDERSTANDING GUARDIANSHIPS CONFERENCE
Slated for
JUNE 10, 12022

MARION, Va. – Southwest Virginia Legal Aid Society, along with the Southwest Virginia Elder Justice Task Force, is hosting its 5th Annual Elder Abuse Conference on June 10th.  The conference will be held virtually and there is no cost to participate.  This year’s focus will be on “Understanding Guardianships.”  Guardianship is the legal process by which an individual assumes the role of decision-maker for an adult who becomes unable to make such decisions for himself/herself.

The conference will last from 8:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and you must sign up on our website www.svlas.org by June 9th. Continuing Education Credits up to 5.0 credit hours has been approved for Adult Protective Service workers, Attorneys, Guardians Ad Litem, Magistrates, Court Clerks, and Law Enforcement. The conference is open to anyone, and we encourage anyone that works with seniors to join us to learn more on how we can protect our seniors from mental, physical, financial exploitation and abuse. Our planning group, the “Southwest Virginia Elder Task Force” is comprised of a variety of agencies in the region that work to protect seniors’ best interests and allow them to live a healthy life. The Elder Task Force meets monthly to prepare the Conference every year. The full list of sessions and descriptions, speaker biographies, conference agenda and materials can be found on our website, at www.svlas.org.

If you need assistance in registering or have any questions, please contact Gary Cody, gcody@svlas.org, 276-783-8300, ext. 2011.
